The subjective filtering of sensations builds the basis on which to capture a cityscape. By what do we define urban space and how does our personal “cartography” of a city look like? What do we, consciously or unconsciously, blend out? With a focus on the diversity of artistic conversion, differing viewpoints and further questions based around a municipal structure. For each event the different positions and artists come from diverse places and fields.

To not have to stay in the familiar, the question arises again and again in: how can the space be known immediately addressed and discussed without prejudice? In an 8-month studio scholarship at “The kleinen Markgräflerhof” of the Bartels Fondation, offered us (Susanne Schär & Peter Spillmann, supe.ch) here in Basel the right starting point to circle this issue in more detail. For the time of our 'Artists in Residence' stay we decided to organize three events under the title "Stadt(t)räume". It was important for us to invite local and foreign positions to link them with each other and at the same time to present a width on the subject.
For the compilation of the artists we resorted to our artistic network and selected according to the theme of the events the artistic work and positions. For us, not theoretical concepts were in the main focus. With our moment occasions we wanted rather a platform for exchange, networking, presentation and discourse, but also to create a place of contemplation and reflection.

The foundation is a private facility established by Rainer Bartels, who, for several years, has advocated the facilitation of contemporary art in all fields. Through the granting of funds up to four artists ateliers are available. All fields of visual art, music, literature and other art forms are represented.
The Kleiner Markgräflerhof at Augustinergasse 17 in Basel was the venue for the Stadt(t)räume Events # 01, # 02 and # 03.
